SPRING/SUMMER WOMAN’S COLLECTION SHOOT
AUGUST 2024
This summer we embarked on our first non-studio photoshoot, setting out to showcase a truly beautiful Spring/Summer womenswear collection. All of the pieces were handpicked vintage designs from France, overflowing with soft linen's and intricate silhouettes, embodying this delicate and tender time of year. Household names like Cop Copine, IKKS and Biche De Bere stood in between the pastel and cream tones of 2000's France.
It was difficult not to want to keep every piece as we began putting together the look-book for the shoot. Drawing inspiration from Sofia Coppola’s The Virgin Suicides, we wanted to tell a story of soft feminine beauty amongst a blossomed landscape. We envisioned our models laying about in the lush grass that overlooked Brighton and the ocean just outside Rottingdean.
The collection also included a few darker toned pieces, like the Biche De Bere pelt-embossed tie dress, and the olive green two-piece set. These garments helped us picturing a juxtaposing palette - one that would be set against a backdrop of dark wood and metal.
With the help of Stylist Kate Robinson, we created a run of pieces to be worn by our three friends and models Alexia, Mikayla and Laura. On the day of the shoot, as if a Goddess herself was smiling down on us, we woke to cerulean blue skies and warm July sun - it was perfect. We packed up a couple of cars and headed over the Downs out of Brighton with photographer Vic Gore, photography assistant Scott Gibbons, Margaux, Eric, Kate and the models.
We shot for hours in the hot sun, making use of the countryside around us. Scott and Vic flowed between film and digital, capturing the models intertwined with one another in the meadow below the windmill. For this particular location below the Rottingdean windmill, we were heavily inspired by a photoshoot done by Joseph McKeown with Audrey Hepburn back in her debuts in June 1951.
We then moved to a spot outside the The Smugglers Rest; its car park offering a panoramic view of the Ocean. Here, we had the use of Scott’s retro convertible Mazda MX-5. The perfect contrast to the grassy meadow, set against the greys of the concrete and the light blue sea, the models worked at showcasing the vintage textures against the beaming silver. The shoot was a success, and gave rise to a new way of showcasing each seasonal collection.
