We're Eric and Margaux, founders of Good as Gold Store. We established our Trafalgar Street shop in the summer of 2023, after years of collecting and selling vintage clothing, both online and at various market stalls in Brighton.
Our aim with the store was to establish a curated space filled with hand-picked designer, deadstock and secondhand pieces. We merged Eric's love for streetwear - encompassing elements of sportswear, 80s and 90s nostalgia, and Japanese street fashion, from West coast surf culture to East coast Hip Hop - and with Margaux’s love for classic and vintage silhouettes, influenced by her childhood in the Parisian fashion world she experienced through her mother, ranging from 1960s to the early 2000s, with a focus on a variety of renown brands and timeless designs.
From conception to its birth, the store has kept community at the heart of what we do. The space, though small, has adopted a constant flow of friendly faces. Our returning customer base continues to grow, with many becoming dear friends of ours. We've also been lucky enough to collaborate with some incredible small businesses and creatives across Brighton and the surrounding coast through events, photoshoots and merchandise collaborations. We've seen first hand the power of grassroots, and the pivotal role it plays in building a thriving community space. We believe that growing alongside other businesses within Brighton is what this city and our store is built on, and is something we aim to keep at the forefront of what we do.
From the outset we've had Laura working alongside us, helping with everything from shop floor to social media marketing, events, shoots and beyond. The three of us, despite taking the business side of things as seriously as they come, are a pretty unserious and fun-loving bunch. Working together is a dream, and gives us the opportunity to grow alongside Good as Gold in wholly unanticipated ways.
