THE LOWELL
AUGUST 2024
Back in January of this year, we received a message from Dr. Martens via Instagram. Abbie, part of the DM team responsible for amplifying the brand to new audiences, was looking to make contact with our buying team. This could only (we hoped) mean one thing - a potential partnership. After some back and forth, our crossed fingers materialised. Abbie's soft northern charm permeated the corporate jargon, and quickly we formed a great relationship with her. She lead us through the ins and outs of Dr. Marten's prestigious history and the direction they were moving towards. We discussed the brand's plans to continue building on the classic styles, while trying to engage with and inspire newness. They proposed a partnership which would entail stocking rare, top tier products in Good as Gold store. Lines that were not available in Dr. Marten's shops; handmade and short release; pieces we could only dream of seeing in the flesh. Generations of customers have worn and sworn by DM shoes. They are a British staple. We couldn't believe they had chosen us to represent them in some way. It was, and continues to be, a huge honour.
The first line we were set to receive was the Lowell. Four colour ways; two leather, two suede. A cocktail of classic DM silhouettes, a vintage revival and a modern mock toe. They were beautiful, and you guys thought so too because we practically sold out within a month.
In celebration of the partnership, we threw a 1 year birthday party for Good as Gold. With the Lowell being a remake of a classic style devised in 90s New York, the space was decked out with all things big apple, showcasing the shoe alongside a curated selection of New York-inspired- and Dr. Marten's vintage clothes.
Accompanied by the smooth sounds of Offie Mag's DJ duo, we handed out hot dogs and bubbly to a room full of our nearest and dearest. The moment felt surreal. As the night drew to a close, we raised a glass to Margs and Eric for their hard work, and to Dr. Martens, for making a choice that was set to change the trajectory of the Good as Gold story.
